FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1) When is Hall 10 Freshmen Orientation Camp 2011?

A: The camp starts on 1st August 2011 (Monday), 9:00 a.m. and ends on 5th August 2011 (Friday).

2) When and where will the orientation be held?

Meeting venue: NTU Hall 10 Carpark (Tentative)
Time: 9:00am
Date: 1st August 2011

The camp activities will be held both inside and outside school compound at various locations. However, we won’t bring you out of Singapore, so you don’t have to bring your passport! =D
As for accommodation, you'll be staying at your spanking new rooms in Hall! The room comes with a comfy mattress for each of its tenants, so be assured that you'll be well-rested throughout the duration of the camp!

3) I wanna join the Hall 10 Freshmen Orientation Camp! How do I apply?

Detailed instructions can be found under "THE ESSENTIALS" page of our blog. Please be sure to follow all the steps, else we won't be able to bring you along for the camp :(

4) How can I pay my camp fees?

A: Please bring your camp fees ($50) in cash to be paid on the first day of camp.

5) What do I need to prepare for the camp?

A: You just need to refer to the full packing list under 'THE ESSENTIALS' page. It will be posted around mid July and your GLs will call to brief you on the details of the camp 1 week before the camp. Don’t worry. The GLs will make sure that you are ready for the camp!

6) Will it be a problem if I am going for the camp alone?

A: Of course not! The key objective of the camp is for you to get to know more people and make new friends. There are bound to be campers attending camps alone every year. Rest assured, you won't be a lonely loner!

7) Do I have to stay throughout the whole camp?

A: Yup! The camp activities and programmes are planned such that you will get to progressively interact and bond with your orientation group members. Hence, freshmen are strongly encouraged to stay for all 5 days of the camp in order to get the fullest and funnest camp experience. However, exceptions can be made for events like medical checkups, qualifying english test, faculty welcome day etc. Affected freshmen will be excused from camp to attend outside-camp activities, and then join back for the rest of camp activities within the same day.

8) Do we get to know the programme flow?

A: Nope! The programmes we have planned out for you is meant to be a surprise! However your Group Leaders (GLs) will inform you of the activities 1 day before so you will know what to prepare.

9) Will there be any activity that involves swimming? I’m not too good a swimmer.

A: Yes. We have planned pool games to be played at the shallow part of the pool. However we would encourage you to join in the fun as pool games are one of the most exciting highlights of our camp.
But, if you still feel uncomfortable about getting into the water, you can always let your GLs know. We will respect your decision. =)

10) There is this particular activity that I'm not comfortable with due to personal/religious/medical reasons. Do I really have to participate in this activity?

A: At any point of time, if any activity offends you or makes you uncomfortable, please alert your senior so that you can sit out the activity. While we encourage all freshmen to take part in all the activities, it is not compulsory for you to take part if you are against the activity or have medical/personal reasons against your participation. The camp committee will not in any way, discriminate you if you choose to sit out an activity. If you feel you have been unfairly treated, please report the matter to the camp chairman immediately.

11) I’m a vegetarian. Will there be vegetarian food available during the camp?

A: Yes. But food requests (eg. vegetarian/halal) must be made beforehand by specifying it in your application form. Similarly, if you are allergic to certain foods, please also declare it in the application form and inform the welfare secretary during the camp.

12) Will halal food be served during the camp?

A: Our meals are all certified halal, so there's not much to worry about! :D

13) Any other important items I should bring that are not included in the packing list?

A: Don't worry, everything essential that we can possibly think of has been included in the list. Unless your CGL has special packing instructions for you, you just have to follow our camp's packing list, which will soon be available under 'THE ESSENTIALS' page on our blog.

14) I have further questions that have not been addressed here. Where can I direct them to?

A: You may leave a comment in our query box at the right, or email us at hallx.foc2011@gmail.com . We will try to get back at you with the answers ASAP.

Lastly, the camp is for all the freshies to enjoy, have fun, familiarize themselves with NTU and Hall 10, and most importantly,  form new bonds and strong friendships. With that in mind, welcome on board and have a happy homecoming journey! :D
